Conference Overview

The 2018 Fall Conference & Celebration of Fellows will be held October 24 – 26 at Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina in Newport, Rhode Island. The conference is designed for Fellows of the Litigation Counsel of America to enhance their already superior trial skills, to address practical issues and topics challenging litigators in today’s changing legal environment, and to afford each individual the opportunity to hear from and interact with North America’s finest trial and appellate lawyers.

Participants will be provided with advanced tools for continued success and expertise in trial techniques, evidence presentation, courtroom technology, case evaluations and marketing, as well as negotiations and alternative dispute resolution. New Fellows of the LCA will be formally inducted into the society during the black-tie Celebration of Fellows Gala on Thursday, October 25. The conference will also give Fellows the opportunity to network with other distinguished attorneys from across North America, earn CLE credit and experience the beauty and splendor of the City by the Sea.

Newport, Rhode Island

Home to yachting’s prestigious America’s Cup and U.S. Naval Station Newport, the city is also known as the Sailing Capital of the World.  Sit back and enjoy the view while “Sight-Sailing” around Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay or hop aboard a former rum-smuggling yacht for an narrated tour of the rich history and legends of this amazing seaport. Or, if you would prefer to learn to sail, several individualized or group programs are readily available. For a different perspective, rent a kayak and explore the endless locations  on the Narragansett Bay 40 mile coastline.

Take a tour of the Gilded Age mansions that were once summer homes of Astors, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts, or peruse the Newport art galleries diverse collections of local, national and international talent. There is never a shortage of activities ranging from art, film and dance to fishing, biking, sailing, vineyards, golf, beaches, state parks, scenic walks, and cruises. A limited number of discounted hotel rooms have been made available for this conference. In order to obtain the group rate, which is only available to conference attendees and their guests, reservations must be made before Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

  •  $259* (Single or Double)

*Posted group rate does not include roundtrip porterage charge of $12.00 per person, per room or Daily Resort Fee of $15.00 per room, per night and applicable taxes. Room rates are subject to state and local taxes (currently totaling 13%), plus a $1 (per night) Newport Tourism Assessment Fee.

There will be an additional charge of $25.00 per person (per night) for each guest over double occupancy. Maximum occupancy per room: four (4).

Guest accommodations will be available at 4:00 PM on arrival day and reserved until 11:00 AM on departure day. Check-out on Friday, October 26 has been extended until 12:00 PM (noon) for LCA conference attendees.

Rates will be honored three (3) days pre-and post-conference based on availability at time of booking and rooms may be subject to a higher rate and/or length of stay restrictions. Rooms on pre-and post-conference dates are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Making your reservation early is strongly suggested.

If room block capacity is reached on or before September 26, 2018, the LCA rate will not be guaranteed and may no longer be available.

Please familiarize yourself with Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina’s Cancellation Policy as the LCA is not responsible for any cancellation fees or other resort charges. All reservations must be accompanied by a deposit equal to the first night’s room rate & tax and guaranteed by a major credit card at the time of booking. The deposit is fully refundable if cancellation is made before 4PM EST 5 (five) days prior to the scheduled date of arrival.  The deposit is non-refundable if cancellation is made after 4PM EST 5 (five) days prior to arrival.  Departure dates are reconfirmed at check-in and may be changed at this time without penalty.  Any guest who checks out prior to their scheduled departure date as confirmed at check-in will be responsible for an early departure fee of one night’s room and tax.

Kingston, RI (KIN): Connections to Newport, RI: Van/car service is available to Newport, RI. Call 401.295.1100 for information and reservations (required).

Providence, RI (PVD): Complimentary shuttle bus service between the Providence train station, convention center, downtown, and the Providence to Newport Ferry terminal.

Self-Parking is available on an hourly basis per entry as follows:

Spa Policies

The Seawater Spa requires 24-hours notice to cancel an appointment without penalty and 48-hours notice for cancellation of multiple services.  Cancellations with less than the required notice will be charged the full service fee. Late arrivals will receive the best treatment possible within the remaining appointment time; full treatment cost applies.

For your convenience, a 20% gratuity is added to all services and is paid directly to the service provider. Additionally, a $5 administration fee is applied to all spa services.
