LCA Referral Network/CounselShare

One of the most important practice development and firm value aspects of the LCA is the resource for business and practice opportunities known as the LCA Referral Network/CounselShare™. Many lawyers who are Fellows of the LCA are already affiliated with associations of independent law firms that provide the opportunity to exchange information leading to cross-representation of clients. However, for many sole practitioners or smaller firms, such referral opportunities are limited. In fact, even larger firms that are already members of a referral network may find the need for expertise in an area of law in which no affiliated member is well-versed. The LCA Referral Network/CounselShare™ provides Fellows the opportunity to cross-sell services among clients that need multi-jurisdictional representation or consultation. Frequently, lawyers practicing in one part of the country find themselves in need of a contact in a jurisdiction where he or she is without information about the practice expertise of lawyers where needed. The LCA Referral Network/CounselShare™ is designed to be an ultimate source for obtaining the help needed. All Fellows are part of the Network. No additional fee is required.

In order to streamline the referral process, Fellows are asked to provide the LCA with three areas of expertise they wish to have included in their Network biography. Though many lawyers may have experience or expertise in a wide variety of cases, selection of only three areas of litigation practice allows referrals to be made quickly and efficiently. If a Fellow would like to expand his or her referral base beyond litigation, other areas of law practiced in one’s firm may be listed. By doing so, for instance, a Fellow in Colorado may list transportation litigation, employment litigation and real estate transactions in his or her respective referral practice list, with real estate closings being an area of law practiced by another firm partner or associate. The more specific the expertise, the greater the possibility of referral. Fellows may select counsel from the Referral roster themselves, or for convenience, simply request that an LCA staff member find a certain number of potential attorneys for consideration and forward this list by email.
